red, white, and royal blue + summer update

09.04.2019

Happy soon to be end of summer! Today I have a mini review + a small life update.  More ~full length~ reviews of some of my summer reads to come!

red, white & and royal blue

If you hopped onto book twitter a couple of months ago, Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston seemed to be a book that everyone was talking about.  During a recent visit to my local indie (The Novel Neighbor) before a vacation I made sure that Red, White & Royal Blue was something I picked up.  My summer has been a little personally hectic, so it was nice to dive into something on the lighter side.  The fluffiness and a little bit of the subject matter reminded me of American Royals–which I read at the beginning of the summer.  However, I found RW&RB to be a tad more satisfying in the scheme of romance; it also paid a lot more attention to the diversity present in the United States and beyond. The plot was completely gripping because of McQuiston’s characters; I was completely enamored with both Alex and Henry.  The additional characters featured in the novel were thoughtfully developed and added to the story.  Overall, this was an incredibly fun read with plenty of serious moments to balance out the light-heartedness.  Notably not YA, I found the more explicit parts of RW&RB to flow seamlessly with he rest of the narrative; nothing let out of place.  I look forward to what McQuiston writes in the future.

and now?

Summer has come to an end and I’ve moved into my college dorm!  The next couple weeks will surely be a whirlwind of adjusting to classes and new responsibilities.  Of course, figuring out blogging is always an aspect of that as well.

How was the end of your summer?
